A two-masted schooner slips out of the Pine River channel as the Charlevoix sky softens into sunset, her sails holding the last of the warm light. The red pier light keeps watch while gulls gather on the rocks, and the channel breaks into hundreds of flickering strokes of blue, coral, and gold.
