The old Coast Guard cutter Sundew slips back into Round Lake at the end of a summer day, her red stripe bright against a dark hull while sailboats rest at their docks below. Sundew called Charlevoix home until 1981 and helped rescue survivors of the Carl D. Bradley in 1958. Overhead the sky breaks into violet and gold, every inch of it laid down in thick, restless strokes.
