Here is the Horton Bay General Store in Northern Michigan as it might have looked when it was still a gas station and the road out front was still dirt. An old green truck waits by the porch beneath the red roof, and full green trees crowd in on both sides. Roman lived briefly just around the corner before moving to Arkansas, and yes, a young Ernest Hemingway was a regular here. The pink sky curls overhead in thick violet swirls.
